Suspect killed in shootout after supermarket robbery

“Three suspects got away with some of the stolen goods and money. Their accomplice was shot and killed.”

One suspect died after a shooting following a business robbery on June 5 in the Cleveland police precinct.

Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Capt Johan Jordaan said four men forced their way into a supermarket on the Main Reef Road in Denver at about 7pm.

Jordaan said as the manager was locking up, two armed suspects forced him, the members of staff and two security guards, back into the shop.

They were pushed into the office where the robbers took an undisclosed amount of money from the safe.

The manager pressed a panic button.

“While the suspects were still loading a television and other goods, a security officer arrived. A shootout between the suspects and the security officer ensued,” said Jordaan.

“Three suspects got away with some of the stolen goods and money. Their accomplice was shot and killed.”

A case of business robbery has been opened and so was an inquest docket.

The SAPS Cleveland is appealing to the community to come forward with any information related to the incident.

“We encourage the community to become informers and assure them that the information will be confidential,” said Jordaan.
