Crawford Italia learners express themselves

Jansen van Rensburg said that they learned about the press and how news is eventually expressed in the print media.

Crawford Italia Preparatory is one of a few schools in the country that offers the Primary Years Programme.

The school is well-advanced within its candidacy phase for accreditation with the International Baccalaureate (IB).

“For the past six weeks, Grade Three learners applied inquiry-based learning around the transdisciplinary theme How We Express Ourselves.

“The theme was wrapped up with a Grade exhibition focused on a strong sense of internationally mindedness by visiting the Portuguese Newspaper,” said Anthony Jansen van Rensburg, principal at Crawford Preparatory Italia.

He said that children learned all about how international news can be shared locally in another language, about the press, and how news is eventually expressed in the print media.

“The newspaper was generous to also give the Grade 3s a space in their next publication. We look forward to celebrate exactly how they expressed themselves.”

A huge thank you to our parent Carla Lima for making this possible for the Grade Three learners,” said Jansen van Rensburg.

He added that part of the IB philosophy is that parents are welcomed into the learning experience, as long as a learner agency exists and children remain at the centre of their chosen learning experience.
