Winter drive for dogs

The community was asked to help by donating washable blankets.

Winter has approached fast and The Dachshund Haven (TDH), various SPCAs and a number of rescue organisations highlighted a need for blankets for dogs.

Kimbal Mare, director of TDH, said many of the kennels are cement kennels for health reasons.

“The kennels are very cold and in many cases don’t have heating facilities.”

Volunteers have begun collecting blankets for the dogs.

The community was asked to help by donating washable blankets.

“The blankets need to be regularly washed and don’t dry in time for re-use,” said Kimbal.

The winter blanket drive for dogs will be running for the third year this year.

“Last year we distributed 400 blankets to various shelters in need.

“This year we are hoping to collect 500 blankets,” said Kimbal.

There are various collection points in and around Edenvale and Bedfordview.
