Jeppe SAPS urged the community to be more vigilant after a rise in ATM card theft in the Jeppe policing precinct.
“The perpetrators will pretend to assist a person and somehow swap the cards at the machine,” spokesperson at the station Capt Richard Munyayi explained.
“Unawares, the victim takes the card, which looks exactly the same as theirs, and they are told that there is a problem with it or that there is no money in the ATM,” said Munyayi.
“The victim leaves and only realises later that they have been scammed.”
The SAPS is appealing to anyone who has information or who has been a victim of these scammers to come forward.
