11th Cleaver Award for Karaglen SuperSpar

For several months leading up to the judging of the store, Marius and his team worked hard to ensure every aspect of their department would not only be exemplary.

For the 11th consecutive year Karaglen SuperSpar has been awarded a title in the annual Cleaver Awards.

On May 15, the winners were announced and Karaglen SuperSpar received a gold award in the category of meat markets and supermarkets.

The butchery department at Karaglen SuperSpar is led by expert butcher Marius Jordaan, who has previously attained six platinum and now five gold awards for the local supermarket.

“We are extremely proud of Marius and his dedicated team,” said Harry Karamichael of Karaglen SuperSpar.

For several months leading up to the judging of the store, Marius and his team worked hard to ensure every aspect of their department would not only be exemplary.

“The team, led by Marius, has worked extraordinarily hard to achieve this. We are very proud of everyone,” said Karamichael.

He added that this year, the competition changed and butchers were also judged on their ability to gain notoriety online.

“We embraced this and ran several campaigns through our website and social media platforms to inform and educate our shoppers on the voting process,” he said.

Jordaan has worked in the butchery department at Karaglen since 2000, entering his first Cleaver Awards in 2008.

That same year the butchery at Karaglen SuperSpar was awarded platinum provincially.

“Marius has never looked back and since then Karaglen SuperSpar has attained six platinum titles and now five gold titles. We are proud to be one of the best butcheries in the country and celebrate this momentous achievement with Marius and his team,” said Karamichael.

The annual Cleaver Awards aims to showcase South Africa’s best butcheries, regionally, provincially and nationally, voted for by their customers.

This year is the 14th annual awards held in association with some of the biggest names in the SA meat industry, including Freddy Hirsch spices.

“We want to take this opportunity to thank each and every customer who took the time to vote for Marius and Karaglen SuperSpar. We would not have been able to achieve this without our customers,” said Karamichael.
