Update: CoE responds to condition of roads

"We are confident that progress with regard to road maintenance will be noticed."

Potholes and damaged roads in Edenvale are set to be repaired by the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) and private contractors.

This information was released after the NEWS requested comment from CoE about the deterioration of Edenvale roads.

On April 24, the NEWS published an article highlighting the concerns of community members and ward councillors alike about the state of Edenvale roads.

CoE spokesperson Themba Gadebe told the NEWS pothole maintenance, patching and rehabilitation of roads in Edenvale are attended to by private contractors and consulting engineers.

“While this occurs internally, CoE teams maintain roads on an ongoing basis.”

Gadebe said external service providers have been brought on board to handle street sweeping, cleaning of gutters and removal of rubble in Edenvale.

“Furthermore, contractors will be increased to cover more areas the internal teams cannot cover in the interim,” said Gadebe.

“It is in this light that we are confident progress with regard to road maintenance will be noticed.”
