Learners take to the stage and put on a show

Schools from the Edenvale and Kensington areas which excelled included Jeppe High School for Boys and Holy Rosary High School.

The 24th annual Edenvale Acting and Drama Society’s High School Drama Festival saw learners from 17 schools take to the stage and put on various shows.

Held at the St Chad’s Anglican Church, the festival started on May 6 and ended with the finals on May 18.

Schools from the Edenvale and Kensington areas which excelled included Jeppe High School for Boys and Holy Rosary High School.

Holy Rosary’s comedy, Departure, received overall second place, with three of its actresses winning awards.

Holy Rosary learners who received awards included:

• Rima Khawaja – best actress

• Mercades James – best supporting actress

• Eliane Buta – best cameo

Jeppe High School for Boys also did well with their production, Outside Maths Class, receiving the Wim Vorster Award for Most Promising Production.

Jeppe learners Kevin Newton and Bayanda Jwara were nominated for best actor while Wandile Mvulane was nominated for best supporting actor.
