Edenvale Hospice calls off fund-raiser

“It costs over R100 000 per month to keep the hospice running and open.”

Edenvale Care Centre Hospice has cancelled its upcoming fund-raising event.

Set to be held in May the event would have seen the Welsh Male Voice Choir perform for community members at Edenvale Methodist Church.

Sister Leigh said the fund-raiser was not feasible for the hospice so it was decided to cancel the event.

Despite the cancellation of the event, Sister Leigh and volunteer Marlene Hooper look forward to organising other fund-raising events in the months to come.

“We are hoping to work with local schools to raise much-needed funds,” said Marlene.

Another proposed idea was to hold a second fund-raising initiative with Spur later this year.

In March, R4000 was raised during a fund-raising event held at Greenstone Spur.

“The Spur fund-raiser went fantasticly well,” said Sister Leigh.

She explained that the centre relies greatly on fund-raisers and donations made by the community.

“It costs over R100 000 month to keep the hospice running and open.”
