This was after the City of Joburg Group Forensic and Investigation Services, City Power and Joburg Water conducted a planned raid on a Main Reef Road property.

SAPS and JMPD members were also on the scene and used rubber bullets to disperse the angry crowd of dwellers who had gathered in the street.

“The premises was hijacked by people from Mongolongolo,” Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Capt Johan Jordaan said.

“The owner subsequently lodged a complaint with City of Joburg after receiving bills for high electricity usage.

SAPS and JMPD members were also on the scene and used rubber bullets to disperse the angry crowd of dwellers who had gathered in the street.

” This has been found to be as a direct result of illegal electricity connections inside the property.

“People threw stones, blocked the roads with rubbish and burned tyres while searches were done inside the property.

“One JMPD vehicle was damaged and some windows of some businesses were damaged.”

Jordaan said no one was seriously injured and a case of public violence has been opened.

JMPD spokesperson chief Supt Wayne Minnaar confirmed the incident.

“JMPD works with all the other stakeholders where there are incidents involving illegal electrical connections or fraud and corruption,” said Minnaar.
