“Some come to run and some come to steal,” said Mhlongo.

Mhlongo said it is much safer to leave your valuables, such as your laptop or cellphones, at home when coming to Gillooly’s.

“When you lock your vehicle, ensure your vehicle is locked before you walk away,” said Mhlongo.

Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Capt André de Jager said jamming of vehicles is a reality and residents should always double check that their vehicle is locked at all times.

“Criminals can also hide in your blindspot, make sure you are aware of your surroundings. Spare wheels on bakkies are also being stolen, make sure your spare wheel is secure,” said de Jager.

Ian Gibson, event director of Gillooly’s Parkrun, said it is a sad sign that criminals are doing such activities.

“We want people to have fun and not be worried about valuables being stolen out of their vehicles. We are glad SAPS and EMPD have come out to patrol the area,” said Gibson.
