Women Who Pray lead prayer for safe elections

The Edenvale community joined hands in prayer for safe elections on May 8.

Edenvale residents, along with Women Who Pray, Edenvale SAPS, EMPD, SOS Security and many others, came together for the Ekurhuleni Elections Prayer Walk at Protea Park on May 4.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said everyone has come together to pray for safe elections on May 8.

“I am very proud of this community for coming together for safe elections. This is a very good initiative,” said Mashile.

He added that when residents go out to vote they should park their vehicles in a safe place and make sure their vehicle is locked as criminals use a jamming system and steal valuables out of vehicles.

“It is your own negligence if you do not make sure your vehicle is locked,” said Mashile.

Kholiwe Shange, founder of Women Who Pray, headed the walk with a motivational talk and prayer.

“We are praying today for unity in our city of Ekurhuleni. May we all have one vision and a corrupt-free South Africa.

“May the person appointed into power not steal from the people, may they care for each South African,” said Shange.

Liopelo Gwala, outreach and training officer for IEC Ekurhuleni, said this election is a blessing to our country.

“Voting is your right, but remember, with that comes great responsibility,” said Gwala.

Ward 19 Clr Bill Rundle and Ward 18 Clr Heather Hart were present and felt encouraged that the community came together in such a moving way.

“It is great to see people show up, to see people praying for peace. I have so much love for my community,” said Rundle.
