Most of the home’s residents had registered to take part in the IEC’s special voting process and queued up for it in excited anticipation.

Some shared their sentiments about the occasion and what it meant to them.

The residents noted what they hope to likely come out of it once the dust has settled.

Sheila Hunt said corruption is the biggest threat to South African politics, but she hopes for great change soon.

Co-resident Charlotte Paul said she wasn’t excited about voting, while another resident, Dorothy Cornelius, said she looked forward to it.

“We’re all fed up with corruption and everything else that has been going on. I’m hoping that we get a strong opposition to balance the scales a bit more,” said Hunt.

A calm Cornelius said she hoped that her vote would make a difference.

“I just hope for change and for a much better future. I’ve been a happy citizen of this country since democracy, but there is still much room for improvement.”
