Fuse substance from electricity boxes used for nyaope

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said the theft from electricity boxes has become a regular problem.

The substances in the fuses are allegedly used for nyaope.

“The substance in fuses are used in nyaope and are taken due to the electricity boxes not having locks on them or the locks are broken,” said Humphreys.

She said the theft causes multiple outages. She urged the energy department to implement preventative measures.

“Residents and security companies are asked to be vigilant. CCTV cameras can be very helpful,” said Humphreys.

Request for comment was sent to City of Ekurhuleni on April 25 at 9am.

Various electricity boxes in Bedfordview do not have locks, making it easier to be tampered with.

Comment was requested by April 26 at 4pm.

At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
