Cleveland police precinct was again rocked by rapes, with the latest incidents in Malvern.
A 31-year-old man was arrested for rape on April 11 after a woman (29) reported she had been raped at her home on Persimmon Street on March 10.
“The victim arrived at her house at about 2am and found a man she knew lying in her bed before he got up and left the room,” Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Capt Johan Jordaan said.
He said the woman went to sleep and woke up an hour later when she felt someone lying next to her.

“She realised she was being raped. She screamed for help and the man jumped out of the bed and fled.”
The man was later arrested and appeared in Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
“Cleveland SAPS welcomes the arrest and we hope that the case will receive a successful outcome in court,” said Jordaan.
In a separate incident, an 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her boyfriend when she visited him at his house on 23rd Street.
“He offered her juice to drink and the woman said she has no recollection of what had happened afterwards.
“She woke up and saw her underwear on the floor, while the man was on top of her,” said Jordaan.

He said the woman reported she was raped three times.
“She told the police the man later took her to a shop and purchased citrus soda which he made her drink, with the notion that she would not fall pregnant,” said Jordaan.
A case of rape was opened on April 2 while the suspect, although known, has not yet been arrested.
“We, however, hope to make an arrest soon. At the same time, we urge the community to come forward with any information regarding this case or to contact Cleveland SAPS on 011 067 5745/6,” said Jordaan.
