Artist to put on display of vibrant colours

Art enthusiasts can look forward to a watercolour and mixed media painting demonstration presented by master watercolour artist Cheryl Curnick.

The demonstration, hosted by the Paint and Palette Group, will be held at the Edenvale Community Centre on April 20.

Cheryl was influenced from a very early age by her mother’s tapestries made from silver and gold threads.

At the age of nine, she started using her mother’s pastels for portraits.

Pursuing a creative career, Cheryl completed a diploma in art at the Natal Art School, where she learnt various commercial techniques which she used in her advertising career.

From advertising, Cheryl went on to decorate designer ware, allowing her to travel overseas.

Exhibiting her work throughout South Africa and overseas, Cheryl has achieved many awards, from Watercolour Society of SA and the Gran-Prix Award in 2000.

“Watercolours are a very lively medium to work in and sometimes there are unexpected occurs which makes it even more exciting,” said Cheryl.

She describes her work as a tapestry of interwoven thoughts of fantasy and realism, expressed through the mediums of watercolour, collage and mixed media.

In 2014 Cheryl launched IWWSA in South Africa, after which she was presented with a certificate from the International Watercolor Society and appointed as a master watercolour artist for the society.

The demonstration will be held at the community centre between 2pm and 4pm.

Entrance is R20 for members and R50 for visitors, this fee includes refreshments.
