Cash office hit by 15 robbers

"Fearing for his safety, he complied and about 15 suspects stormed inside. Two were armed with AK47 rifles while another carried a pistol," said Jordaan.

Police are searching for 15 suspects who forced entry into the cash office of a shop in Kensington on April 6.

“At about 1am suspects held up a security guard near the back entrance security gate,” said Capt Johan Jordaan, spokesperson for the Cleveland SAPS.

He said they tied up and assaulted workers and took an undisclosed amount of cash and other items before fleeing the scene.

“The security guard said he was accosted at gunpoint and ordered to open the gate.

Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Capt Johan Jordaan.

“Fearing for his safety, he complied and about 15 suspects stormed inside. Two were armed with AK47 rifles while another carried a pistol,” said Jordaan.

“The other workers who were inside were all tied up with clothing and a woman was phoned. They used an industrial grinder to open a safe containing cash and took cigarettes and other grocery items. The suspects exited the premises at about 5am and fled the scene in an unknown getaway vehicle,” said Jordaan.

“Security cameras outside the building were not in working condition and could not catch the suspects leaving the scene,” he added.

Jordaan said a case of business robbery is being investigated.
