#IMadeMyMark: Are you eligible for a special vote?

Applications for special votes close on April 18.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has made provisions to allow those unable to vote on May 8 to still cast their vote.

Residents will be able to cast their special votes on May 6 and 7.

According to Member of Parliament Mike Waters, those eligible for special votes include:

• People out of the country on holiday or business

• The elderly

• The bedridden

• If you are disabled

• If you are heavily pregnant

• If you are working on voting day

In order to apply, you must have a valid South African identity document.

On the two days set aside for special votes, voters can cast their ballot at the voting station they are registered at between 8am and 5pm.

If you are unable to go to your voting station the IEC will visit your home, allowing you to cast your vote.
