SAPS cannot name or link Bryanston murder victim to Bedfordview despite reports

The SAPS cannot, at this stage, confirm the victim’s name or whether he had any connection to the 2017 Bedfordview incident.

Gauteng SAPS said it cannot release the name of the 59-year-old man shot and killed in Bryanston on March 10.

This comes after some media reports stated that the man shot and killed in Bryanston this week was the survivor of another shooting in Bedfordview in 2017.

The NEWS reported in September 2017 that Ivan Djordjevic, a Bryanston resident, was shot four times in the parking area of KFC Bedfordview.

Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Capt Andre de Jager told the NEWS at the time that an unknown number of suspects fled in a white Volkswagen Caddy after the shooting.

Djordjevic was rushed to hospital by ER24 and was operated on, on September 12.

When police conducted a search of his car after the Bedfordview shooting, they found a bag filled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In an exclusive interview with the NEWS in 2018, Group operations director of IRS Forensic Investigations, Chad Thomas, said that the murder of George Mihaljevic and the 2017 shooting were part of several incidents connected to a ‘low-intensity war’ between rival Eastern European groups.

He said these included an incident last year September when Ivan Djordjevic (57) was shot four times.

The 43-year-old George Mihaljevic was gunned down on September 24, 2018, on the corner of Van Buuren and Kloof roads.

The NEWS then reported that the public and media had widely speculated about his alleged connection to organised crime and convicted criminal and former Bedfordview resident Radovan Krejcir.

Gauteng SAPS provincial spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo told the NEWS this morning that a manhunt had been launched for the two men involved in the shooting on March 10.

“It is alleged that the victim was entering the complex at his place of residence when the suspects who were driving a blue BMW followed him. The suspects opened fire on the victim. The Byranston man was declared dead on the scene,” said Masondo.

He said the motive for the murder is unknown at this stage, but police are investigating.

Masondo said the SAPS cannot, at this stage, confirm the victim’s name or whether he had any connection to the 2017 Bedfordview incident.
