Penning’s political expertise will be missed

Nkwanyana remembered Penning as a formidable political figure who encompassed outstanding leadership capabilities.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of my big brother, friend, mentor and colleague, Victor Penning.”

Shocked by the loss of an integral member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus in Gauteng, this was the comment its Joburg Central Constituency Political head Bongani Nkwanyana made.

Until the time of his death on the evening of March 31 at his home, Penning served as a councillor in the City of Joburg.

He is survived by his four children and seven grandchildren.

Nkwanyana remembered Penning as a formidable political figure who encompassed outstanding leadership capabilities.

“He is one of the people I met and welcomed me when I joined the DA in 1996,” said Nkwanyana.

“I would like to convey our deepest condolences to his family on behalf of DA Joburg Central Constituency.

“We all learned a lot from his political experience as a DA representative, from both the opposition benches as well as on the DA-led governing benches in the City of Joburg.

“He made outstanding contributions to our party as a chairperson of finance in the city, as a PR councillor, a colleague, friend, mentor and as a big brother. He will be sorely missed,” said Nkwanyana. He expressed gratitude to the Penning family for allowing the late DA member to lend himself to the cause.

“Though we are suffering such a huge loss, I would like to thank the Penning family for lending us such an outstanding public servant, stalwart and a true role model who served the City of Joburg and the country at large, and for decades fought for equality, justice and open opportunities for all South Africans.

“We celebrate his life and will remember him as an outspoken and loyal member of the DA.

“His departure is an immeasurable loss to the people of the City of Joburg, Ward 65 in particular, and the DA as a whole.”
