They said their love for maths and science was instilled in them at Jeppe High School for Boys and Jeppe High School for Girls.

The South African contingent of 20 students was selected from various South African universities and consists of 10 males and 10 females.

They will join 580 young scientists from 88 countries and 42 Nobel laureates at the meeting.

The students will attend a six-day programme which includes several lectures and panel discussions, with key topics including cosmology, laser physics, and gravitational waves.

The young scientists will also be given an opportunity to meet with the Nobel Prize-winners during meals, daily science walks, and other social events.
