Vehicle licence fees amended

The amendments are now open for public comment.

Residents have an opportunity to comment on the amendment to vehicle licence fees.

This follows the publication of the latest Road Traffic Regulations which detail the province’s vehicle license fees.

The amendments are now open for public comment.

The regulations form part of the annual provincial price review, with the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport recommending a fee increase of 7.3 per cent (e. CPI + 2) for the 2019/20 financial year.

Previous approval by the Provincial Treasury indicated, at a minimum, all subsequent motor vehicle increases should be increased by CPI + 2 per cent.

Treasury regulation section 7.1.3 provides for an accounting officer to review, at least annually, all fees, charges or rates, scales or tariffs that are not or cannot be fixed by any law and that relate to revenue accruing to a revenue fund.

The Road Traffic Regulations were published in the Gauteng Provincial Extraordinary Gazette No 67 for public comments.

Interested parties are invited to make comments on the regulations on or before April 18.

Comments can be sent to the Office of the Director: Policy, Legislation, Research and Knowledge Management 25th Floor, Life Centre Building, 45 Commissioner Street, Johannesburg.

Alternatively, calls can be lodged to 011 355 7140 or 082 788 8889 or emailed to GPDRTPublicComments@gauteng.gov.za
