Laerskool Kensington to host fund-raising extravaganza

Laerskool Kensington hopes to raise R50 000.

The learners of Laerskool Kensington will be excited to put their game faces on when tackling the thrills and spills of their upcoming fun day.

The event will be held in conjunction with action sports ambassadors Uniq Sports at the Edenvale Action Sports Arena on April 13.

“We work hand in hand with schools across South Africa and help them raise funds for whatever their needs are,” said Sue-Ellen Finnis, founder and director at Uniq Sports, a company which also specialises in the installation of interactive whiteboards for schools.

Parents and children visiting the fun day can expect a medley of excitement for all.

This will include a sports tournament in the form of a soccer and netball event, which will see winning teams from the primary school score gold and silver medals.

Children will also have an opportunity to get their faces painted, partake in a balloon modelling contest, marvel at a magic show which has been specially made to capture their imaginations and be treated to a scrumptious lunch as part of the day’s festivities.

Finnis said the school has a range of pressing needs, which they hope to have addressed through the newly formed partnership.

“The school hopes to raise about R50 000 in order to see to the many needs it is currently faced with.

“We encourage all parents to make sure that where it is possible, to have the entry fee of R90 for learners and non-learners and R45 per person for adults and supporters, for the Action Sports Fun Day paid before the end of term. In doing so they will secure their children’s entry into the fun day and tournament,” she said.

Headmaster at the school Mark Holland said his school is excited about the fun day as it will go a long way towards assisting the school financially.

“Only a few people can afford to pay school fees given the problem with the economy currently,” said Holland.

“That means the school is in dire need to get extra funding to keep running and to provide the education we would like to provide.

“The fundraiser is not a once off thing, but a partnership that we’ve started and we believe will bear fruit by bringing only good things to the school,” said Holland.
