Jeppe rows to sixth place at SA Schools Rowing Champs

The boys won seven medals; two gold, four silver and one bronze with the u-15’s winning the overall points trophy for their age group.

Jeppe High School for Boys came sixth overall at the SA Schools Rowing Championships at Roodeplaat Dam on March 2.

The boys won seven medals; two gold, four silver and one bronze with the u-15’s winning the overall points trophy for their age group.

The Jeppe u-15 broke the record that St Benedict’s held over all the team events for many years.

Bennies have won the overall points trophy for the 27 years in a row.

“In the points competition, you earn a point for every crew that enters. You get more points for making semi-finals, finals and for medalling. It is, therefore, a measure of both strength and performance of the top crews,” said Kerry- Anne Faller from Jeppe High School for Boys.

Jeppe recently bought new junior boats and the club has been hard at work with more boys taking up rowing.

These factors played a role in their success.

There were two Jeppe u-15 squads in the semi-finals and one in the final.

The squad won the silver medal which earned a lot of points and won a bronze medal in the single sculls.

The double made the semi-final and three single scullers made the semis.
