It was a day of celebration at Bertrams Junior School on March 5.
Bertrams School announced its prefects for 2019 and also awarded Grade Six and Grade Seven learners for academic excellence.
Principal Khanyi Twala shared words of encouragement with the learners.
“A leader must always set an example. You must shine in doing good and be able to stand up for the right things.
“Those who are chosen we see light in you and believe you can shine it to others to see,” said Twala.
The best academic excellence award went to Ester Nekaka with Ryan Njoroge earning the good fellowship award. Sizwe Mthethwa was rewarded with the best general knowledge award with the best maths award snatched by Ester Nekaka. The the best reading award went to Kgotso Modisha.
There were also five special awards given for the best gumboot dancers. Awards for the best performers in drama, public speaking, drummies and drummer, were given.
The sports committee and school development committee was also announced.
“These two committees will be the responsible for looking after learners and their needs in school. We encourage learners to communicate with them,” said Peter Mbimala.
The leadership of the school include head boy, Ryan Njoroge; deputy head boy, Sizwe Mthethwa; head girl, Ester Nekaka; deputy head girl, Kgotso Modisha. Other leaders: Amanda Hadebe, Nicole Banda, Arcenia Kibido, Ntokozo Mkhize, Bokamoso Machoba, Bongiwe Mgaga, Luboya Nkunabu, Koketso Makhurupetsi, Nare Ramabina, Mahlatse Hlatswayo, Rorisang Bolase, Olona Vundisa, Olwethu, Lebogang Ngalo, Zisanda Nozigqwaba, Shanaih Da Conceicao, Ziningi Nzonzo, Arouca Aderito, Thandiwe and Amahle Mphanjukelwa.
