Pedestrian killed as two vehicles collide

JMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the accident and that one person was killed.

A pedestrian was killed when two vehicles collided at the intersection of Berea Road and Marshall Street, in City & Suburban, near Jeppestown, on February 25.

The unknown victim was trying to cross the street when the incident occurred.

Paramedics from KEMS, who arrived on the scene just before 6am, told the EXPRESS the man was declared dead on the scene and one driver was treated for minor injuries.

A security officer from Maboneng Civic Association said several similar collisions had occurred at this intersection.

He said reckless driving and non-compliance with the rules of the road were to blame for the prevalence of collisions at this spot.

“One vehicle went off the road and bumped into the pedestrian,” Minnaar later told the EXPRESS.

“A charge of culpable homicide is being investigated, but the cause of the collision has not been established,” said Minnaar.
