Scouts come together to celebrate founder

Several Scout Troops from the Eland district came together to celebrate the founder of the Scouting movement, Lord Robert Baden-Powell (BP).
The troops united at Bedfordview Primary School on BP Sunday, February 24.

District Commissioner Clayton Warren said the annual event is held to commemorate Baden-Powell.
“The Day was all about recognising Baden-Powell’s efforts and promoting the scouting movement.”
It started off with the Scouts and Cubs walking from Virgin Active Bedfordview to the school.
Once at the school the group held a Scouts Own, a short ceremony, where awards were presented to some of those in attendance.
Following the ceremony, scouts were encouraged to participate in some of the traditional South African sports organised for the day.
Clayton said he wanted to make the day as fun as possible.

• First Brackenhurst Scout Group
• First Germiston Scout Group
• Third Kensington Sea Scouts Scout Group
• First Lambton Air Scouts Scout Group
• First Randhart Scout Group
• First Wychwood Scout Group
“Scouting is all about developing good citizens and strengthening the community.
“We want to show the community that scouting is still active in South Africa.”
The next large scouting event which the district will participate in will be Kon Tiki, an annual raft building event at Benoni’s Homestead Dam.
