“Cases have been opened but no action has been taken. Taxi drivers are fed up, “said Madima.

They hoped that the road closure would get them the attention they needed from authorities.

Chairperson of the LTA, Uelaphi Mtshali said the challenge LTA has is that they have taxi ranks in the area that are not being utitlised to capacity. “We do not support violence,” Mtshali said.

A meeting was scheduled, on the same morning at the Sebenza Police station between representatives from LTA and TATA to resolve the dispute.

Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, coordinator of the Taxi Forum from Sebenza Police Station confirmed that a decision had been reached.

“The Department of Transport ruled for LTA to contest the decision and apply for the P91 route which is currently registered with TATA.”
