Retirees revel at community centre

Members of Johannesburg East South African Association of Retired Persons (SAARP) were recently treated to a musical performance.

The performance was put on by Eastleigh resident Mervyn Miller and his musical partner Eileen Wainer at the Edenvale Community Centre.

Lilly Picker, a member of SAARP, said the association has about 55 members from the areas surrounding Edenvale and some from Johannesburg East.

The musical performance was just one example of the events hosted by SAARP.

“We arrange talks, music mornings, bingo, quizzes and in general anything that people might enjoy for relaxation and pleasure,” said Lilly.

The association hosts regular monthly social coffee mornings at various venues in Edenvale.

“Our group has been going for over five years and our meetings are held at Edenvale Community Centre and Belgravia Bowling Club in Bedfordview,” said Lilly.

She said the association is currently seeking new members to join its ranks.

It meets on the second Tuesday and the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Membership costs R100 per individual or R150 per couple while meetings cost R30 per person.
