"It is quite an exciting time for us. By doing this we will be able to serve more businesses and the community."

Hoping to take Edenvale to new heights, Edenvale City Improvement District (ECID) is set on expanding its footprint further down Van Riebeeck Avenue.

Edenvale City Improvement District’s public relations officer, Katy Young, stands on Van Riebeeck Avenue, which leads to Terrace Road. ECID announced that it hopes to grow its footprint and include businesses along Van Riebeeck Avenue.

Some tasks which ECID focuses on include:

• Preventing the deterioration of Edenvale.

• Maintaining infrastructure.

• Removing illegal structures.

• Stopping illegal and informal traders.

• Working with law enforcement to reduce drugs in the CBD.

• Working with EMPD to enforce by-laws.

Manager of ECID, Linda McKenzie, said this year ECID hopes to attract business and investors into the town by improving it.

“Edenvale was formerly known as the Jewel of the East and we want to have that title back,” said McKenzie.

By improving Edenvale, ECID hopes to create a town where everything the community needs is in one place.

“We want to bring back the life, buzz and lifestyle that Edenvale once had,” said Young.
