During the official handover, the families who stay at the home welcomed representatives of the respective companies with open arms and tears of joy.

“We are so grateful for the donation. It is more than we could ever hope for. We were so surprised and were not expecting it at all. On the day, all of us got together and sat down for a delicious lunch that Spar donated. It felt like Christmas. There was hope and so much love,” said Thulane Mngomezulu, managing director of the Dudu Zwane Home.

The donation will be used to fix the home’s plumbing, to paint the house to create a lively atmosphere and to buy new beds for the children’s room.

Mngomezulu thanked Spar and Kaya FM.

“You are wonderful to us and have changed the lives of everyone who lives here,” said Mngomezulu.

“The Dudu Zwane Home caters for more than 23 people who are infected and affected by HIV/Aids. They provide a holistic approach which includes educating the local community and are therefore in desperate need of medicine, food and caregivers. We hope this donation will allow the centre to expand their influence in the community so that they may be able to assist more families affected by HIV/Aids,” said Kathleen Bailie, Spar inland advertising manager.

The Dudu Zwane Home is a non-profit organisation and cares for people who are infected and affected by HIV/Aids.

They also provide services such as washing, feeding and monitoring medication for patients.

The establishment offers a soup kitchen, social development services, counselling and support groups.
