Flying squad nabs 12 suspects

Flying Squad executes number of arrests in Joburg at the weekend.

The SAPS Johannesburg Flying Squad arrested 12 suspects for various crimes in different parts of Johannesburg during routine patrols between January 18 and 21.

Police also recovered four stolen vehicles, including a Toyota Hilux and a Mercedes-Benz.

A hijacked Toyota Quantum minibus taxi was recovered while a suspect was still inside and police also managed to retrieve an unlicensed 9mm firearm.

“Police members are determined to help the community and to recognise the needs of the community,” said Sgt Desmond Subramoney, spokesperson of Johannesburg Flying Squad.

“The community members are encouraged to work with the police in order to understand what constitutes a crime.”

Arrests included:

• Six suspects arrested for possession of drugs.

• Two suspects arrested for possession of the stolen motor vehicle.

• One suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

• One suspect arrested for possession of hijacked vehicle.

• One suspect arrested for malicious damage to property.

• One suspect arrested for theft.

All 12 suspects, aged between 24 and 37, will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
