Police investigating shooting incidents during December

Police investigating cases of murder and an inquest following multiple deaths in Johannesburg.

Police are investigating a case of murder after a man was shot and killed on Kitchener Avenue, Kensington during an alleged hijacking attempt on December 24.

Gauteng police provincial spokesperson Col Lungelo Dlamini told the EXPRESS that the man was sitting inside his parked vehicle when the shooting took place.

“The man was shot whilst waiting inside his black Mercedes-Benz Viano outside a house,” said Dlamini.

“The victim was rushed to Bedfordview Municipal Clinic but he died on the way there.”

Dlamini said it is believed two suspects were involved in the shooting.

“No arrests have been made and police are following up on several leads.”

In an unrelated incident, two people were shot and killed on December 23 outside the Kwa Mai-Mai Hostel and Traditional Market in Jeppestown.

According to police, a man allegedly opened fire on the two men aged 33 and 36, who were sitting inside a stationary blue Mercedes-Benz at the entrance to the hostel.

Both men sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head.

“They were found inside a blue Mercedes-Benz with gunshot wounds,” said Dlamini, adding that the victims are believed to be Lesotho citizens.

“The motive for the shooting has not yet been established in addition to which no suspects have been identified.”

Police are also investigating an inquest following an incident in which a man believed to be in his 30s plummeted to his death from the third floor of the Hoofd Mansions residential flats located on 23 Siemert Road in New Doornfontein in the early hours of December 15.

“We are still investigating the Siemert Road incident. The matter will be forwarded to the inquest court once a post-mortem report has been compiled.”
