LATEST: Details remain vague over taxi gathering in Kensington

A large contingent of taxi drivers gathered along Roberts Avenue in Kensington.

It is believed that the gathering is a result of an earlier scuffle involving an e-hailing driver and the driver of a minibus taxi.

Reports from the ground suggest that several drivers linked to a passenger transport service allegedly assaulted an unknown taxi driver. It is not clear what sparked the incident or which taxi association the taxi driver who was allegedly attacked is linked.

A Joburg East Express journalist on the ground was denied access to the gathering or an opportunity to take more photographs or obtain comment.

Neither the police on the scene or a representative from the taxi association was willing to provide comment.
