Lara leads the way with 10 distinctions

“During my entire school career I had always worked hard. I am glad to see that it has paid off.”

Former Holy Rosary matriculant Lara Irons received 10 distinctions for her 10 subjects when she recently completed her last year of school.

Lara, who has been at the school for 13 years since grade R, said achieving 10 distinctions feels wonderful.

“It was a great feeling to receive my results. I felt very relieved.”

“It was like a massive weight had been lifted from my shoulders.”

Former Holy Rosary matriculant Lara Irons received 10 distinctions.

She hopes to study medicine at the University of Pretoria or the University of the Witwatersrand.

Lara said while at Holy Rosary the school felt as if it was a family, spending so many years at the school Lara was able to grow with it alongside fellow learners.

“During my entire school career I had always worked hard. I am glad to see that it has paid off.”

Lara said while in Grade Four she realised she had a talent in academics and was encouraged by her parents to excel.

In Grade Nine Lara decided to become even better at academics and do the best she could.

“The teachers were always warm and cared for the learners both professionally and personally,” said Lara.

“When I started taking additional subjects all of my teachers supported me and many gave up their breaks to help me.”

Lara explained that her decision to study medicine came to her after a guidance councillor suggest she job shadow the profession.

“I had always liked biology especially the anatomy of the human body.

“On my first day while job shadowing I saw six cesareans and knew that I wanted to study medicine.”

Lara said beside excelling in academics she would spend her free time creatively by either playing the flute, painting or drawing.

“Art was a hobby for me as well as one of my subjects so it was nice to combine one of my hobbies with my academics.”

When asked for words of encouragement for young learners Lara said the most important thing is to continue believing in oneself.

“You must keep working as hard as you can and never give no matter what happens.”

She said although there may be failures along the way it is important to keep looking forward and not to look back.
