Edenglen High School announces valedictorians

Many of the learners received prestigious awards for academics, sports and culture.

Edenglen High School recently hosted its annual valediction ceremony for the matrics of 2018.

Many of the learners received prestigious awards for academics, sports and culture on November 15.

Nikiwe Dube received the Dux Scholarum Award which is an award for the top student of the year.

Nikiwe has been the number one student in her grade for four of the past five years.

During 2018 she reached an average of 90 per cent in Grade 12, the highest in her grade.

Furthermore, she was awarded three subject trophies as well as a gold medal for her academic excellence.

Hope Matshekesheke and Sarah Hahn were both awarded honours blazers for 2018.

Hope received full colours for choir, music, academics and leadership.

Sarah received full colours for drama, music, choir and leadership and received half colours for tennis, academics and olympiads. She also received a trophy for cultural commitment.

Laken-Lee Abrahams and Steven Johns both received the Pro Meritore Award for leadership.

A badge is not a decoration, it is a reminder of duty and commitment.

Hope and Omar Kassim received the Principals Award for 2018.

The first criterion of the Principals Award is learners who best promote the ethos and principals of Edenglen High.

As leaders, they exacted only the best from everyone, and while finding this difficult at times, they simply never gave up and never considered a solution that compromised standards.

Kathryn Stone was awarded the Edenglenian of the Year Awards, a new award that the school established. Kathryn is someone who personifies the character of a true Edenglenian.
