Couple launches second album

“The music and songs we create make people think about what the musicians are trying to tell us.”

Edenvale-based band Osmosis has recently released their second album.

The album, titled Between The Silences, was released on November 23 and is the creative work of Edenvale residents and husband and wife Quintus van den Heerden and Margaret Purslow.

Quintus, singer and songwriter of Osmosis, said the music played by Osmosis is largely inspired by Neil Diamond, Elton John, ABBA, Pink Floyd and many other groups.

The group has been together for eight years and was established when Quintus met Margaret.

Quintus said before he met Margaret he initially wanted to start a band and operate behind the scenes instead of being on the stage.

“When I met Margaret my mother actually suggested that I should try starting a group with her and see how it goes.”

He said the music is not propulsive like much of the music played on radio stations but instead tells a story.

“The music and songs we create is the type which makes people think about what the musicians are trying to tell us.”

“To be honest I hope this type of music makes a comeback.”

Quintus explained that the first album Here With You told the story of new love which focused on themes of falling in love with a person and being on cloud nine.

“The second album still focuses on a relationship but instead a few years down the line when both partners are dealing with the realities of life,” said Quintus.

“There are some darker themes in the second album but the main theme throughout the songs is that no matter the hardship there is a way to make it through.”

Quintus said the second album made use of several session musicians, each of whom contributed and brought something special to the group.

He said the songs written for both albums are written by him and his wife.

“We work well together and share a great understanding of what we want to achieve and say in our songs,” said Quintus.

“We trust each other and it is nice to have your family relationship extend into a business one.”

Quintus said although the band has produced albums, its next goal is to establish a band, play live and eventually get on the radio.
