Elderly enjoy early Christmas

Elize said the food was divine, the event was really enjoyed by all and it was a success.

Rand Aid hosted a Christmas party at Thembelami Care Centre Complex with the help of the Inyoni Angels, who are residents of the Inyoni Creek Retirement Village, on November 30.

Thembalami, Max Ordman Deaf Association (MODA) residents and Alexandra Township beneficiaries of Rand Aid’s Zamokuhle outreach project were present at the party.

Zamokuhle outreach gives grocery parcels, donated by Gift of the Givers, based in Bedfordview, to elderly people.

Thembalami’s Lara Hurwitz, social worker, and Elize Raath, manager, helped pack gifts.

Thembalami complex manager Elize Raath said every year Inyoni Creek resident Arthur Haddon puts on a Santa Clause suit and hands out hampers.

“This year, he even postponed an eye operation so that his Father Christmas duties could go ahead as always. The Zamokuhle gogos started to dance and he was such a sport, he joined in. He is a special and unique person,” said Elize.

The food was prepared by Cookchill, Rand Aid’s catering division.

Elize said the food was divine, the event was really enjoyed by all and it was a success.
