In 2016 he signed a one-year contract with Umhlobo Wenene FM.

Musawenkosi Ntsele is making a name for himself.

Also known as DJ Zaizo, he started his music career after he formed his own school boys Kwaito group in 1997.

“I grew up in the 1990s during Arthur Mafokate Oyi, Oyi’s hit songs. I then formed my own group and we started singing and dancing after school and during weekends.

“After completing matric we had different visions. Some wanted to be lawyers while others followed their teaching careers. I came to Johannesburg to look for record deals. It was difficult.

“I didn’t know where to start looking or who I could approach for help. I met Sakhile Gumede who is also known as Sgilamkhuba and we formed the duo group called Amaphanta. We released a few tracks and done some performances in the nightclubs but couldn’t get airtime,” he said

After years of not being recognised anywhere as an artist, he started to deejay at clubs.

“The only thing that I got was people complimenting me. The music industry was not easy and I was not getting paid. I then started to do mixes and sent them to Alex FM, Mcr-107.6 FM, Massiv Metro and Umhlobo Wenene FM,” he said.

In 2016 he signed a one-year contract with Umhlobo Wenene FM.

“I deejayed every Friday and Saturday on Jaiva Mzantsi Show which was presented by Phumzile Zonke.

“The contract was terminated due to the change of presenters and I kept knocking for other opportunities. In 2016 I was approached by Ukhozi FM. I am currently one of the DJs on Fakumoya no njinjiwami show as well as Jabulujule no Dudu khoza. I mix different genres of music in a short space of time,” he said.

He is currently working on his Gqom project that contains the hits like Nkunzimatic and Cooler box.

He worked with other artists on the project and it will be released in March next year.

Born in Kwamhlabuyalngana, KwaZulu-Natal, DJ Zaizo grew up surrounded by artists.

His late father owned a gospel band.

“Whenever my father was not around I would take over and make sure that the job was done. My biggest dream is to go back to school. I would like to enrol for a qualification in radio production. After matric I couldn’t study further as I did not have any financial assistance,” he said.
