Johannesburg East Cluster SAPS makes 50 arrests

Police will be out in full force this festive season.

The Johannesburg East Cluster SAPS made 50 arrests from November 30 to December 2.

Most of the suspects appeared in court and others paid fines and were released.

“The four police stations – Cleveland, Yeoville, Jeppe and Hillbrow – will continue playing their role by arresting those who are caught on the wrong side of the law as part of Operation Buya Mthetho throughout this festive season,” said Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Capt Richard Munyayi.

The arrests included:

• Nine were arrested for assault.

• One suspect was arrested for attempted business break-in.

• One suspect was arrested for armed robbery.

• Seven were arrested for fraud.

• Seven suspects were arrested for common assault.

• Three were arrested for theft.

• Eight were arrested for driving under the influence.

• One suspect was arrested for possession of suspected drugs.

• One person was arrested for possession of counterfeit money.

• One person was arrested for dealing in dagga.

• Four people were arrested for being illegal immigrants.

• Two suspects were arrested for common robbery.

• One suspect was arrested for possession of dangerous weapon.

• One suspect was arrested for house break-in and theft.

• One person was arrested for reckless and negligent driving.

• One suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

• One suspect was arrested for murder.

• One suspect was arrested for obstruction, resisting arrest and assault.

• One suspect was arrested for robbery with other than a firearm.
