Police to investigate burning of three trucks

Ntladi said firefighters from five fire stations were present, using six fire engines.

Police will be investigating the torching of three trucks at the intersection of Isando Road and Monteer Street in Isando on November 26.

Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson William Ntladi said the trucks were allegedly set alight by employees from a plastic company who were on strike.

“Apparently, they used petrol bombs to set them alight before fleeing from the scene,” said Ntladi.

Ntladi said the drivers of the trucks managed to escape with minor injuries and were treated on the scene and thereafter taken to Arwyp Medical Centre in Kempton Park.

Ntladi said direct offensive firefighting was initiated but little could be saved.

He said private firefighters from a nearby company tried to extinguish the blaze as well.

“Extensive damage was caused due to the accelerants and cargo involved,” said Ntladi.

The truck drivers sustained minor injuries.

Ntladi said firefighters from five fire stations were present, using six fire engines.

“They promptly responded to the scene for intervention,” said Ntladi.

He said Kempton Park Fire Station responded first and received assistance from Edenvale, Primrose, Boksburg and Commercia firefighting teams.
