Carlos expresses his appreciation to his residents

This year has not been easy for all of us.

Families and friends are looking forward to spending time together and share the festive cheer as the festive season approaches.

Ward 66 Clr Carlos Da Rocha had a chat with the EXPRESS to reflect on the year’s successes and failures.

“2018 is coming to an end I would like to pass a message of thanks and hope to my residents,” said Da Rocha.

He noted the difficulties of the year and appreciated how residents still supported him.

“This year has not been easy for all of us. The cost of living went up from fuel, food, tax hikes and many other things. Service delivery challenges where a nightmare for various reasons, but we prevailed. We fought and resolved whatever issues there were and for that I thank you,” said Da Rocha.

He said he was happy about a few projects that were a success in the ward this year.

“I managed to get a few projects done in the ward. The Rhodes Park soccer fields were re-done and upgraded and the Yeoville market that falls within Ward 66 was revamped. I’m even more pleased with the resurfacing of Berea Road and North Avenue because for the past six years I have been trying to get it resurfaced,” shared Da Rocha.

The Vesparados who dropped off balls at the Caffiain in Kensington for councillor Carlos Da Rocha’s ball collection for the underprivileged children in the area.

He said that he appreciated and commended his ward for the support they give him when he needs it.

”On several occasions, I have asked for help in a form of donations and you came through for me with flying colours. It showed me the love you have for your community and that warmed my heart. My last request from you was the soccer balls for the local underprivileged children and again you shined and when I blinked there were soccer balls. You went out of your way to make sure underprivileged children have a wonderful Christmas by receiving a gift,” said Da Rocha.

He gave a special thanks to the Vesparados.

“I would like to thank our resident Vespa scooter gang who came in numbers to drop off soccer balls. I really felt the love and support,” said Da Rocha.

He said even though the year was the most challenging he cannot thank the residents enough for their support.

“I would like to wish my residents who will be celebrating Christmas a safe and merry one. For all my other residents all the best wishes and enjoy the holidays,” said Da Rocha.

He further urged residents with furry friends not to leave them unattended and, if going away, to arrange with family or friends to look after their pets, and also to keep an eye on them if there are the usual fireworks.
