26-year-old man charged with armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

The firearm was recovered with its serial numbers still intact and 14 live rounds.

Swift response from the police resulted in the arrest of a man for possession of an unlicensed firearm at Karstel Street in Jeppestown on November 21.

The spokesperson of Jeppe SAPS, Capt Richard Munyayi, said they received a phone call from a complainant.

“He told us that he was robbed of a firearm and money earlier this month. We opened a case and investigations got underway. We then received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the suspect,” he said.

Police officials proceeded to the given address.

“On arrival, the officers found the suspect and they asked him about the firearm. He took it out and gave it to them and admitted that he had taken it during the robbery,” he said.

The firearm was recovered with its serial numbers still intact and 14 live rounds.

The 26-year-old man was charged with armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He was detained at the Jeppe Police Station.

“He will appear in court soon. Police investigations are still continuing,” said Munyayi.
