The meeting was to discuss and view the soil erosion and impending collapse of the Jukskei embankment.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys is concerned about residents’ safety along the collapsing embankments.

She now has the same problem at Gillooly’s Farm, where the park is filled with residents every Saturday morning, due to a Parkrun.

Humphreys said that the collapsing embankments put runners at risk.

Joburg Water had a meeting with Humphreys about the problem and she is hopeful.

“The area needs to be fenced off and a better drainage system is needed as well,” said Humphreys.

There are no safety measures in place on the Jukskei River.

She also mentioned that irresponsible development by residents is also a problem with the drainage system in the area.

“Water is running in the streets as a result of developments done by residents. Everyone needs to take responsibility. It is not just the city’s problem,” said Humphreys.
