Speeding motorist claims he was rushing to the cemetery at 187km/h

A rider on an orange Honda motorcycle clocked at 177km/h and claimed he was testing the bike.

Five motorists were caught travelling at excessive speeds on the N3 northbound between Gillooly’s Interchange and Linksfield Road on Sunday, November 18.

The motorists were caught by the EMPD High Speed Unit.

A 36yr old male driver behind a wheel of a blue VW Polo Vivo was caught at 6.30am doing 187km/h and claimed he was rushing to the Alexandra cemetery whne questioned by officers.

A rider on an orange Honda motorcycle clocked at 177km/h around 5.40am said his reason for speeding was that he was testing the bike after its extended period of inactivity.

The remainder of the speedsters arrested were caught between 5.50am and 9.40am in sedans after registering speeds of 178km/h, 166km/h, and 162km/h.

All the arrested speedsters were charged at Bedfordview Police Station for reckless and negligent driving.

They were released after posting a bail of R1 000 each and are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
