Ex-boyfriend sent to prison for life

JOBURG – He found the two sleeping. He attacked the man with a brick and he assaulted his ex-girlfriend with a fist and he fled the scene.

South Gauteng High Court sentenced Athohetius Moyo to life imprisonment for murder, two years imprisonment for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and five years for house-breaking with intent to commit murder, recently.

Moyo was arrested in Hillbrow last year by Yeoville SAPS following a tip-off.

Spokesperson for Yeoville SAPS Capt Sifiso Mabizela said Moyo discovered that his ex-girlfriend was dating an old man who resided at Hunters Street.

“He broke into the house and entered through the window. He found the two sleeping. He attacked the man with a brick and he assaulted his ex-girlfriend with a fist and he fled the scene.

“The woman’s boyfriend died on scene and she went to hospital for medical attention. A case of murder, house-breaking with the intention to commit murder and attempted murder was opened at the station in 2010,” he said.

Mabizela said Moyo managed to hide from the police for seven years.

“He was in and out of the country several times. Extradition attempts failed,” he said.

Mabizela said all sentences will run concurrently.
