The school partnered with Clothes to Good and Clothes to Food initiatives, together with international organisation Rise Against Hunger.

Over the past two terms, learners have collected clothes to fund 5 000 meals for early childhood development centres in the community.

The school received an additional 5 000 meals sponsored by Rise Against Hunger.

Continuing their fight against world hunger, Saheti hosted a food packing event in the George Bizos Hall on October 20.

It saw learners from Saheti and St Andrew’s School for Girls pack food parcels which will provide meals for six to 18 months to local disadvantaged communities.

The learners also made toys and educational toolkits using 95 per cent recycled items for homes which care for disabled or understimulated children.

Jesse Naido, managing director of Clothes to Cash Exchange, said the idea to help those in need was started by the learners.

He said the learners collected clothes which are put into bales and sold to micro-businesses.

The two schools collected approximately four tons of clothes.

“The funds raised from selling the clothes are given to Rise Against Hunger,” said Jesse.

Rise Against Hunger SA national operations manager Brian Nell said the organisation uses the funds to make meal packages.
