Readers requested to help with Christmas party

The centre currently has 54 children and we need 54 readers to “adopt” a child and buy a Christmas present for that child.

As we gear up for the 10th annual Christmas party for the children of Pinocchio Educare Centre, the NEWS reminds our readers that it is only with their support that this day will be made possible.

2018 marks the 10th year that the NEWS will host its annual Christmas party for the children at Pinocchio Educare Centre in Edenvale.

The loyal sponsors of this annual event, Karaglen SuperSpar, 7 Eagles Spur at Greenstone Shopping Centre and De Backery, already pledged their support for this annual event for the 10th consecutive year.

The NEWS’ collection of Christmas gifts started earlier this year and we call on our readers to ensure that every child receives a Christmas present when we host our 10th party on December 4.

The centre currently has 54 children and we need 54 readers to “adopt” a child and buy a Christmas present for that child.

Readers can phone the NEWS and we will provide you with a child’s name, age and gender to ensure you buy a special gift for him or her.

“Since announcing this year’s Pinocchio Christmas project, the NEWS has received support from some of our readers but the list of children’s names is still long,” said the NEWS’ editor, Marietta Lombard.

For many of the children, the only Christmas presents they will receive this year are those sponsored by the NEWS’ readers.

The centre is an early learning centre for the stimulation and development of children from impoverished and low-income families in Edenvale and the surrounding areas.

The centre was started by Child Welfare South Africa Edenvale due to the high cost of daycare in Edenvale and because of the high number of single-parent children and orphaned children living with relatives.

Readers can visit the NEWS’ office at 25 Main Road, Fishers’ Hill in Primrose and pick a name from the list of 54 children or alternatively phone the NEWS on 011 822 1792.

Gifts must be dropped off at the NEWS’ office before November 19.
