City working to resolve repairs and maintenance backlog

JOBURG – Sifumba said she would like to reassure residents she is aware of these issues and she is taking steps to ensure the facilities across the city are maintained and restored to a condition that will allow residents their optimum usage.

City of Joburg is working to resolve repairs and maintenance backlog facilities.

MMC for community development Clr Nonhlanhla Sifumba said in July this year, she embarked on a tour of all the city’s recreational centres and swimming pools to ascertain the level of repairs and maintenance in the facilities.

“I was disappointed to see the state of disrepair in our facilities despite the repairs and maintenance budget that remains unspent year after year.

“In addition to this, I have received many of our residents’ rightful complaints about the state of these facilities,” she said.

“I would like to extend my apologies to residents for any inconvenience as a result of this. I am regularly meeting with departmental management so as to speedily resolve maintenance related matters at facilities, so that all our residents can experience the best of our city services.

“I commit to providing constant communication on the progress made and any challenges met until this issue is resolved,” she said.
