Toastmasters join World Hunger movement

In light of the theme World Hunger, Egoli members and guests were asked to skip supper and bring perishable food items.

Egoli Golden City Toastmasters Club hosted a World Hunger event at St Giles Home for the Physically Disabled on October 9.

“In light of the theme World Hunger, Egoli members and guests were asked to skip supper and bring perishable food items to donate to St Giles while the club cancelled the regular scrumptious tea/coffee, cake and other snacks allowing everyone present to experience what it felt like to be hungry, even if it was for only two short hours,” said the club’s Richard Francis.

Francis said he was humbled by the cans collected.

“I don’t think Rotary, standing outside Pick n Pay Bedford Centre, could collect so many cans in such a short a time as we did,” he said.

The educational was presented by professional life coach, Distinguished Toastmaster and 2015 Southern African Speaking Championship finalist Michael Coyle who spoke on effective coaching and mentoring.

“The event was well attended by members and guests with the audience being thoroughly entertained by no less than five prepared speeches, several unprepared speeches, five speech evaluations and an educational,” said Francis.
