Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Capt Jean Olckers said the suspect was arrested on September 19 after members of Edenvale Community Police Forum asked for assistance.

He said CPF members were approached by the business and asked to help.

“The cameras were used to monitor the suspect’s movements, and led the police to the suspect’s house,” said Olckers.

“Crime prevention members were sent to the property the suspect’s vehicle was seen entering.”

After further investigation, officers found suspected stolen solar panels, bolt cutters and an undocumented individual at the address.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property, possession of house break-in implements (bolt cutters) and business theft.

“Police are following up on information which could result in a second arrest,” said Olckers.

He said the undocumented individual was also detained at the police station.

Olckers said Edenvale SAPS recently met with a representative from Gauteng Police Intelligence Unit to discuss the cameras.

He said information gathered by the cameras will be shared with the provincial unit.

“The cameras system has proven to be a vital crime-fighting tool for the Edenvale SAPS,” said Olckers.

“We would like to thank the ECPF patrollers and camera team for their hard work.”

He urged community members to support the project.
